STST Assembly | The AI Dilemma

Leo Crane

Leo Crane artist and creative producer discusses whether AI can bring positive change to artists and the cultural sectors.

Join us for an STST Assembly with Leo Crane, artist, lecturer and co-founder of AIFA Ventures. Leo will be discussing how traditional artistic practice can combine with experimental digital technology. In particular he will speak about the AI Film Academy which celebrates innovation, creativity, and technology and aims to build a more equitable investment model for today's artificial intelligence and evolving IP frameworks. He will address the current threats that AI brings to creativity and agency but will also offer a counter-narrative of how AI can open up and reawaken the industry.

This Assembly is specifically focused on discussing issues around AI for artists, creatives and cultural organisations. We encourage those working with digital technologies and those with questions around it to join us in this critical conversation to discuss the issue and share learning.

Leo Crane is an artist, creative producer and educator. His work has been widely exhibited, screened, performed and published, including animated films in charcoal and watercolour, figurative fine art, and the first ever live opera on the blockchain. He runs the London-based studio Figuration, producing films, advising arts organisations and supporting emerging artists. He teaches fine art, art business and art & tech at Sotheby's Institute, V&A Academy and WIRED Education. He holds an MA (Distinction) in Computer Animation and studied figure painting under Maggi Hambling CBE.

STST Assembly is a monthly critical talk series and meeting place focused on contemporary art. Each session centres on a different question, thematic strand or cultural practice. Through intimate dialogues it platforms invited speakers, alongside an open floor conversation that encourages shared learning. STST Assembly is on the last Thursday of every month for cultural workers and artists. We begin with a Coffee Morning networking opportunity.

A group of people sit facing one direction, listening. They are bent forward, paying close attention to the scene in front of them.
